Zombiepiece Theater
This past weekend, I had the pleasure to go and see Evil Dead The Musical for the second time, with some friends of mine. While pondering on what to write about for my blog entry this week, I thought: “I bet I could vaguely tie in my theater experience with public relations.”
Here we go: today I will discuss how being “gimmicky” can get a lot of attention for you or your product. For example, take Evil Dead The Musical. For those of you who have not seen the 3 Evil Dead films, they are complete masterpieces (I should know, I have a 4 year honours BA in Film…trust me) of gory horror. To my utter enjoyment, some very intelligent person decided to turn the movies into a musical extravaganza.
The interesting thing about this musical, is that it employs the use of “stage blood.” And by “employs the use,” I mean everyone gets drenched in syrupy blood goodness in the second act of the musical. There is even a section in the theater for the audience called the “splatter zone.”
I remember when I first heard about this musical, the splatter zone is what sold me. Breaking the 4th wall of the stage? Throwing sticky gunk on me? Yes I will pay $40 for that experience!
To digress, having a splatter zone is very unique in a gimmicky sort of way. Not many stage plays can brag about violating their audiences. By having such a unique feature, I am sure the musical received plenty of coverage. I know I was sold.
By having this information, I am sure that we can add a feature like this to the first event that we have to throw. Perhaps: “Charity BBQ with Splatter Zone – BYOB (the last B stands for blooood).”
And for all of those who wish to see the results of the splatter zone…

Is that your trademark model pose? I think I have seen it in an ad campaign before!
Sounds like you had a great time… I am little scared about this splatter zone BBQ!

I love going to musical shows, but I am not sure I would want to sit and get covered with stage blood. But you result on your shirt is beautiful. I have just always related dressing nice with going to the theater, but I guess this new type of show is the entertainment of the future.
